We were
driving down Hwy 30 one afternoon, not too long after moving to
Texas, when Marisa told me I got her lost, ( I guess I was the
navigator). We passed the Palace of Wax on the left, and
thought we must be almost to Dallas. We went a little
farther then turned around and headed back. We forgot
about the Palace of Wax until a few weeks ago, I was listening
to the news, during my lunch just before the 4th holiday
weekend. The news report was by one of the field reporters
that had visited the museum that morning, and it was during an
episode about vacationing in the Dallas - Fort Worth area.
The memory of the place came back to me and I mentioned it to
Marisa. We had a few days off together, and Brandon is out
of school, so we decided to go. |

This is one of those
places you would expect to see in downtown Orlando, or San
Francisco on Market Street, or some other major metropolitan
area, but not here, not in Grand Prairie. I like Wax
Museums, but I always critique the likeness of each character,
like they must look exact or else. Most of the characters
looked lifelike, except a few, and some even looked like the
ones they depict but some were way off. I also noticed
that even though some looked way off in person, photos of them
seem to look much more like them. As an example,
Dirty Harry looked nothing like Clint Eastwood did in the movie,
but if you look at the photo, it's not bad. |

Jay Leno on the
other hand looked nothing like Jay in real life, and the photo
doesn't do it any justice. And Sylvester Stallone as
Rocky, doesn't even look like a real person, it looks very much
like a wax figure, and nothing like Sylvester. Dean Martin
and Sammy Davis Jr. looked like their heads were too small, but
in the photos, they too don't look bad at all. They
definitely all look different in real like then they do here,
but our intentions are to give you a taste of the museum so you
can decide for yourself if you want to check them out. |

All of the past President's of the
United States |
|
|

|

The Presidents of
the United States was a good exhibit, most of them we have never
seen before, especially an actual photograph, so even if they
were a close depiction, they looked right. However when
you get to Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Regan, Bush,
Clinton or Bush, they all looked phony to me, but then I have
seen them before. |

The best part of the
Wax Museum was the horror section. They had so many in
this section that some of it was actually scary. My camera
battery died at this point in the tour, so Marisa had to use her
Blackberry Curve to take the rest. We will go back some
day and re-tour the Wax Museum, I will update my pictures at
that time, but until then, these will have to do. The
Blackberry actually takes very nice pictures for a phone, it
even has a built-in flash. |
